Real Weddings: Kayla and Nick's Winter Tennessee Wedding

Tell us the short story of how you met one another.

We actually met in college, and the guy I was dating at the time introduced us. We became fast friends, and stayed that way for a long time. Nick had always had feelings for me, but I was involved with someone else. Once my previous relationship ended, he mentioned that he had always held out hope that we would end up together. He waited all that time!! We started then, and never looked back.

Tell us about the proposal!

We used to go driving back roads in college, and there was a spot by the river that was the first spot we said, “I love you.” So he tried to take me back to that spot, BUT the river was flooded and the roads were closed! He had to make a Plan B on the spot! So... he drove us into Memphis and he proposed by the river. He said, “It’s not the exact spot, but it’s the same river.”

What was your favorite moment on your wedding day?

I think we would both say our first look. It was that moment where we both thought, “This is real, the moment is here. I’m about to marry my best friend.”

Why did you choose White Oak Farms?

We looked and looked for a venue in Memphis, but we were on a budget and couldn’t find anything we loved that was in the budget. I found White Oak on a search on Google, and immediately reached out. It After we saw the venue, and met Stephanie, there was no doubt in our mind that we had found our venue.

In a few words describe your theme or style for your wedding.

Since we were on a budget, we tried to go as simple as possible. We stuck with greenery, and neutral colors.

Is there anything else you can tell us about your love story?

I think the best thing about our love story is that we are best friends. We have known each other almost 10 years, and most of that time we were just friends. At the end of the day, we fell in love with each other already knowing a lot of the other’s best qualities and some of the flaws we have. It truly makes us stronger as a couple!
